News

Hold on to your hats, ladies and gents, Degotoga Writing is on a roll! I’m writing with fiery fury to bring you amazing new releases by years end, here's the skinny:

Huldah: Daughter of a King is in the early stages of edits. I can’t wait to introduce you to the Taeron world and character line-up. This story is special, it just popped out of my brain and onto the page like magic. Exciting things are happening so watch for updates over the coming months.

Flowers In Winter has turned ONE! I cannot believe it’s been a year since the debut. Check out my social media in the next few hours for a birthday discount if you haven’t picked up a copy yet.

The sequel is coming! The first draft of We Stand Together will be completed by the end of February (I hope--sequels are much more difficult to write than I anticipated). If I can stick with the extended timeline, edits should start in the late spring. It’s fun to dip my toes back into the lives of Sarah Cash and her family. They’re all older now and have some big decisions ahead of them (no worries, Aunt Eunice is still kicking). Oh, and there are some unexpected love interests pursuing Sarah...welcome to adulthood, my girl!

Liv’s Story will debut new installments quarterly, watch for them in March, June, September, and December. Good times!

Accolades

Sorry folks, I’m going to dote on myself a smidge. Winning the Houston Writers Guild - Book Cover of the Year (2018) with my buddy, G.M. Kelso, was a nice way to wind down. More than just the golden badge, I’m grateful to add this nugget to my author experience because it’s too easy to get down, frustrated, and distracted when pursuing your dreams. Sometimes you just have to show up and take a chance, the value is in the attempt, not the foil stickers.

If you’re an aspiring author or just writing as a hobby or maybe you haven't started yet, please find a writing group or guild near you. Finding birds of a feather (or dragons of a hoard...Fern Brady) is what makes this special. I invite you to get out there, chase your dreams, and find those special someones who will encourage the heck out of you!

Events

This is where the rubber meets the road. I have set a personal goal to be available for at least quarterly signings around Houston. March details coming shortly.

GM Kelso and I will be sharing a booth at Comicpalooza in May. Location of our booth will be announced closer to the event.

Mr. Kelso and I are also supporting Houston Writers Guild in managing the 2019 Book Cover of the Month Contest, so come on our to our next social to toss your cover into the ring. Follow on Facebook for details.

Author’s Corner & Spotlight

Buddy building, I love it and this month is featuring one of my favs! Here’s a bit of backstory--I have been reading inspirational fiction since I was a tween. The stories I’ve read over the years have lifted me out of depression, connected me to my God, and given me an appreciation for the human experience. Though I wouldn’t categorize my writing as inspirational, I think some of those elements show up because I enjoy it so much.

Becca McCulloch’s work, Hermana, is a beautiful inspirational fiction and deserves to be read! It has been my pleasure to read early drafts of Hermana and I fell in love with the beauty and texture of the Dominican Republic which is vividly described. The story flows with a depth of introspection while keeping you jumping from one chapter to the next without regard for the clock. Not only is the story inspiring, the expertise and precision of Becca’s writing style is masterful. Let’s look at the synopsis...

Bookish and street-smart Hermana Laurie Lewis wants to be more than the child of a broken home who flunked out of music school. Full-time mission service will carry her away from the problems with her dad and immerse her hands in the work of God, or, it would, if she’d stop hiding in the bathroom and wishing the island had better plumbing and bug spray. Hermana is a work of inspirational fiction infused with a hefty dose of reality that shows how being less than perfect can be exactly what the Lord needs to accomplish His purposes.

Excited shivers, right? Beyond that I have something special to share. The proceeds of this book are helping Becca and her family to fulfill their dream of adoption. Please, if you’re looking for a good read just travel to any of the links below to like, follow, AND purchase!

With Appreciation…

Before we roll further into 2019, I want to thank you for riding along in these early days of authorship as I sort out how to balance my craft with the demands of daily life. Your support and encouragement keeps me coming back. I love writing the books but I also enjoy getting to sit down and peck out a few words to you via the newsletter and blogs. Writing is a dream come true and I look forward to doing it better and getting to know you more over the course of the year.

With Affection! -J.
