Theme: Six Children & Six Years
I’m in my 6th year of this amazing authorship dream and the photograph above is from the first cover photoshoot done for my debut novel, Flowers In Winter. The roses in the image represent the six Cash children from the novel and the photograph serves as a piece of nostalgia reminding me to keep chasing this dream.
In order to honor these six years of growth and the coming sequel, We Stand Together, I want to host this competition for the best fan art inspired by the theme and image. Get creative, have some fun.
Contest Dates: March 1st – May 30th, 2021
Contest Winnings: 1st Place - $50.00 USD gift card, signed copy of Flowers In Winter, medal & certificate of appreciation, and their artwork displayed on www.jmjordan.net and associated social media sites.
2nd Place - Signed copy of Flowers In Winter, medal & certificate of appreciation, and their artwork displayed on www.jmjordan.net and associated social media sites.
3rd Place - Signed copy of Flowers In Winter, medal & certificate of appreciation, and their artwork displayed on www.jmjordan.net and associated social media sites.
Contest Rules:
1. Artwork must be original – you cannot use third-party artwork or materials in your work. This means that you cannot use anything that was created by someone else.
2. Size – 8x10 or 5x7
3. Medium – Watercolors, acrylic, pencils, ink
4. Supports – Canvas, card stock, paper
5. One submission per artist. Please put First & Last Name on the back with the year, your city, and state. U.S. submissions only. (We will try for international next year).
6. Artists must email a jpeg file of their work to degotogawriting@gmail.com no later than 11:59 p.m. CST on 30 May 2021 and include a brief description of their piece (size, medium, supports) along with why they chose to answer the theme as they did. Please use an email address where you can later be contacted with the contest results.
7. In the submission email, contestants must also acknowledge that they are willing to grant Degotoga Writing full rights to use the artwork as future promotional materials. An official agreement will be emailed to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners to be signed and returned to Degotoga Writing with the original artwork within one week of notification of winning placement.
8. Artist age is 12+. If the artist is under 18 years of age, a legal guardian must send the email on behalf of the minor artist, maintain all communication with Degotoga Writing, and sign the release should their minor artist be in the winning placement.
Choosing the Winner: Following the closure of the submissions window, a slideshow of all submissions will be prepared and sent to the Degotoga Writing & Authorology Staff for voting from 06/01 – 06/07.
· Staff will be given the following points for the submissions of their choice:
o 5pts for 1st
o 3pts for 2nd
o 1pt for 3rd.
· The submission with the highest score will be given 1st place, and so on.
· All contestants will be notified of their placement from 06/08 – 06/14 via the email they use to submit the jpeg.
· Upon receipt of rights and the original artwork, winners will be announced on www.jmjordan.net
Really, I am totally stoked about this and I'm looking forward to seeing my email fill up. Please approach the theme with enthusiasm, you don't need to have read the novel to tackle this.
